We are part of an Interreg project about Ocean-bound Plastic

Innovative Integrated Tools and Technologies to Protect and Treat Drinking Water from Disinfection Byproducts (DBPs)

A meeting of all members of the international consortium implementing the project "Innovative Integrated Tools and Technologies to Protect and Treat Drinking Water from Disinfection Byproducts (DBPs)",AKRONIM: H2OforAll was held on November 21, 2023 at the University of Gdansk Library. The project is funded under the Horizon Europe program. During the meeting, attended by about 40 people, discussions were held on the progress of research work carried out in the various tasks of the project. The participants were welcomed by the Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Development of the UG, Prof. Sylwia Mrozowska, PhD, and the Project Coordinator on behalf of the UG, Prof. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska, PhD. The meeting was chaired by Project Leader Prof. Rui Martins from the University of Coimbra in Portugal. Internship at the University of Cretan

In February-May 2023, Dr. Eng. Chemistry Europe Symposium, August 29, 9:15 - 12:30.

The Horizon - RIA competition

Within the framework of the Horizon Europe program, the European Commission will finance a project co-developed by a research group headed by Prof. Dr. hab. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska. Prof. Dr. hab. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska's team will receive about EUR 200,000 under the Horizon - RIA competition. The assumptions of the project "Innovative Integrated Tools and Technologies to Protect and Treat Drinking Water from Disinfection Byproducts (DBPs)" include the development of appropriate analytical techniques for monitoring DBPs and modeling their spread in drinking water systems, as well as assessing the environmental impact of DBP spread. In addition, the project will study the toxicity of DBPs and their impact on the environment and will propose a technology to remove DBPs and alternatively a technology to avoid their formation during water disinfection processes. The project will involve 18 partners and the project leader is the University of Coimbra.

"Primum Cooperatio" statuette

Prof. Dr. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska, head of the Department of Environmental Technology and the Photocatalysis Team of the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Gdansk, director of the Fahrenheit University, received the "Primum Cooperatio" statuette at this year's gala of the "Pomeranian Employer of the Year" competition. The Primum Cooperatio statuette honors individuals representing the Pomeranian academic community for outstanding scientific achievements combined with documented activity in implementing their own scientific achievements in the economy.

Sustainable Development Day

As part of the Sustainable Development Day, which took place at the Faculty of Chemistry on 03/06/2022, the employees of Department of Environmental Technologies, Anna Gołąbiewska, Patrycja Jutrzenka Trzebiatowska, Aleksandra Pieczyńska and Paweł Mazierski took part in the Zero Waste Fashion Show. Employees played the roles of designers of unique creations made of recycled materials as well as the role of models.

"Doctoral Experimenter of the Year" and "Popularization does not hurt"

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Mateusz Adam Baluk from the Department of Environmental Technology received the individual award of the 1st place "Doctoral Experimenter of the Year" and the team award of the 3rd place for the best popularization project for the "Studia na Migi" project in the "Popularization does not hurt" competition organized by the National Representation of Doctoral Students.

Scholarships of the Minister of Education and Science for  outstanding achievements

We are pleased to announce that B.Sc. Kacper Pobłocki and B.Sc. Marta Pawlak received scholarships of the Minister of Education and Science for  outstanding achievements. The students conduct research at the Department of Environmental Technology in the Laboratory of Catalytic Materials and Processes under the supervision of Dr hab. Dagmara Jacewicz, associate professor and Dr. Joanna Drzeżdżon.

Short-term SEA-EU exchange

At the Department of Environmental Technology (07.03-08.04.2022), Tomislav Šoletić and Slaven Dragićević, students from the University of Split, conduct a research internship as part of a short-term SEA-EU exchange. During their stay, under the supervision of Dr. Aleksandra Pieczyńska and Dr. Paweł Mazierski, the students performed research in the field of synthesis and application of nanomaterials based on TiO2 nanotubes.

Rector's Award for the outstanding academic achievements

On March 9, 2022 Mr Kacper Pobłocki received 2020/2021 academic year UG Rector's Award for the outstanding academic achievements (2nd degree) in the. Mr Kacper Pobłocki conducts research at the Department of Environmental Technology in the Laboratory of Catalytic Materials and Processes under the supervision of Dr hab. Dagmara Jacewicz, associate professor and Dr. Joanna Drzeżdżon.

Award for the Best Graduate of Chemical Business

M.Sc. Hanna Głowienke - PhD student of the Photocatalysis Laboratory of the Department of Environmental Technology, on March 9, 2022, she received the Award for the Best Graduate of Chemical Business at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Gdansk in 2021.

Airborne and marine microplastics from an oceanographic survey at the Baltic Sea: An emerging role of air-sea interaction?

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Patrycja Jutrzenka Trzebiatowska and Prof. Dr hab. Eng. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska are co-authors of an interdisciplinary scientific article entitled "Airborne and marine microplastics from an oceanographic survey at the Baltic Sea: An emerging role of air-sea interaction?” published in the prestigious journal Science of The Total Environment. Bekker NAWA scholarship program

In this year's edition of the Bekker NAWA scholarship program, there are 2 laureates from the Faculty of Chemistry from the Department of Environmental Technology, Dr. Eng. Anna Malankowska and Dr. Eng. Paweł Mazierski. Dr. Eng. Anna Malankowska will take her three-month internship at the University of Nova Gorica (Slovenia). The title of the project that he will implement is: "Covalent organic skeleton composites / Cu NPs for CO2 conversion". Dr. Eng. Paweł Mazierski will go to Columbia University in New York as part of the internship. He will spend 12 months there, implementing the project: "Dual-functional cerium-based organometallic skeletons for selective photoconversion of biomass and CO2 towards high-value chemicals and fuels".

15th International Conference on Inorganic Chemistry and Material Chemistry

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Joanna Drzeżdżon received the award for the best presentation during the 15th International Conference on Inorganic Chemistry and Material Chemistry, which took place on December 2-3 2021 by presenting the oral communication entitled "Optimization of the Conditions of Oligomerization and Polymerization Processes of Selected Olefins with the Use of Complex Compounds of Transition Metal Ions", co-authored with Dr. hab. Marzena Białek, prof. UO from the Department of Chemical Technology and Polymer Chemistry, Opole University.

Tech Connect Europe conference

On November 15-17, 2021 in Malmo (Sweden), the Tech Connect Europe conference combined with the fair was held to combine the best applied research and early-stage technologies from universities, laboratories and start-ups with industry and investment end users. The event was attended by employees of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Gdansk - Magda Kozak and Paweł Mazierski, where as part of the TANGO 3 project - "Thin film photoreactor" (acronym Foto4Chem) co-financed by the Joint Venture of the National Science Center and the National Center for Research and Development "Tango". They presented a prototype a photoreactor that was created as a result of the aforementioned project. As part of the Tech Connect Innovation Showcase, a stand was implemented which presented the operation of the photoreactor and the results of the tests carried out, as well as the presentation of the idea to a wider audience during the Spotlight Pitches part.

Student Project of the Year
