Within the framework of the Horizon Europe program, the European Commission will finance a project co-developed by a research group headed by Prof. Dr. hab. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska.
Prof. Dr. hab. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska's team will receive about EUR 200,000 under the Horizon - RIA competition. The assumptions of the project "Innovative Integrated Tools and Technologies to Protect and Treat Drinking Water from Disinfection Byproducts (DBPs)" include the development of appropriate analytical techniques for monitoring DBPs and modeling their spread in drinking water systems, as well as assessing the environmental impact of DBP spread. In addition, the project will study the toxicity of DBPs and their impact on the environment and will propose a technology to remove DBPs and alternatively a technology to avoid their formation during water disinfection processes. The project will involve 18 partners and the project leader is the University of Coimbra.
Prof. Dr. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska, head of the Department of Environmental Technology and the Photocatalysis Team of the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Gdansk, director of the Fahrenheit University, received the "Primum Cooperatio" statuette at this year's gala of the "Pomeranian Employer of the Year" competition. In this year's edition of the Bekker NAWA scholarship program, there are 2 laureates from the Faculty of Chemistry from the Department of Environmental Technology, Dr. Eng. Anna Malankowska and Dr. Eng. Paweł Mazierski. Dr. Eng. Anna Malankowska will take her three-month internship at the University of Nova Gorica (Slovenia). The title of the project that he will implement is: "Covalent organic skeleton composites / Cu NPs for CO2 conversion". Dr. Eng. Paweł Mazierski will go to Columbia University in New York as part of the internship. He will spend 12 months there, implementing the project: "Dual-functional cerium-based organometallic skeletons for selective photoconversion of biomass and CO2 towards high-value chemicals and fuels".

On November 15-17, 2021 in Malmo (Sweden), the Tech Connect Europe conference combined with the fair was held to combine the best applied research and early-stage technologies from universities, laboratories and start-ups with industry and investment end users. The event was attended by employees of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Gdansk - Magda Kozak and Paweł Mazierski, where as part of the TANGO 3 project - "Thin film photoreactor" (acronym Foto4Chem) co-financed by the Joint Venture of the National Science Center and the National Center for Research and Development "Tango". They presented a prototype a photoreactor that was created as a result of the aforementioned project. As part of the Tech Connect Innovation Showcase, a stand was implemented which presented the operation of the photoreactor and the results of the tests carried out, as well as the presentation of the idea to a wider audience during the Spotlight Pitches part.
